Yes, vape does have calories. Is it worth stressing out about though? Not really.
First, remember that most of what goes into e liquid is vegetable glycerin (VG) and propylene glycol (PG). Since both are additives in food, they both have nutritional info that can easily be found online. Both VG and PG contain about 4 calories per gram or milliliter.
The other two ingredients make up vape are nicotine and flavors. However, they generally make up less than 1% of the ingredients in vape - hence why most PG and VG ratios in vape add up to 100.
Flavorings generally contain very little sugar - these are generally artificial flavorings, not flavorings like fruit syrups. The caloric content of nicotine is also generally not something that is measured - it is not meant for food consumption. It would also be extremely dangerous to eat nicotine.
Though that 1% is what sets a lot of vape juices apart, it would not contribute much to calories because it’s such a small part of vape. Even if it was pure sugar, that would only add 4 calories per 100ml of vape!
Lastly, whether or not any of the few calories in vape end up being properly absorbed and utilized by the lungs is something that simply hasn’t had any research done on it. There’s been a lot of research on many components of vapes, from the bioavailability of nicotine salts versus freebase nicotine, to the possible dangers of flavoring agents.
However, so few calories are present in vape, it is not worth worrying about.
